Guides to journal reports (R4)

These guides are for reports available from the Journals (R4) area of JUSP.

Journal-level reports

  • JR1, JR1a and JR1 GOA reports

    The number of monthly requests for each title from a selected publisher over a selected period of time in the COUNTER JR1, JR1a or JR1 GOA (Gold Open Access) report format.

  • JR1 reports including gateways and host intermediaries

    The number of requests for each title from a selected publisher over a selected period of time, including accesses via gateways and host intermediaries (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest).

  • JR1 reports excluding backfile usage and GOA

    The number of requests for each title from a selected publisher over a selected period of time both in total and with backfile use subtracted. It also shows you GOA (Gold Open Access) usage and usage via gateways and host intermediaries (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest) to provide a complete picture of "current" usage.

  • Individual journal(s) search and usage

    Search across publishers for individual journals and see their usage across all available years, including accesses via gateways and host intermediaries (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest) and via JSTOR if applicable. JR1a (backfile) and JR1 GOA (Gold Open Access) usage are also displayed.

  • JR5 reports

    The number of requests for each title and year of publication from a selected publisher over a selected period of time in the COUNTER JR5 report format.

  • JR2 reports

    The number of turnaways for each title and the reasons from a selected publisher over a selected period of time in the COUNTER JR2 report format.

  • JR2 reports including gateways and host intermediaries

    The number of turnaways for each title and the reasons from a selected publisher over a selected period of time, combined with JR2 data from gateways and intermediaries.

Summary reports

  • SCONUL returns

    The number of full-text article requests (COUNTER JR1 or equivalent) for the academic year 1 August-31 July.

  • Annual summary of publisher usage

    Identical to the SCONUL return, except that it provides usage (i.e. full-text article requests) for each publisher by calendar, rather than academic, year.

  • Summary of publisher usage by date range

    Usage (i.e. full-text article requests) for each publisher over a selected date range.

  • Annual summary use of gateways and host intermediaries

    Annual number of requests from a selected publisher for a selected year including accesses via gateways and host intermediaries (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest).

  • Annual summary use of backfiles

    Annual number of requests (including gateway and host intermediary requests (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest)) from a selected publisher for a selected year both in total and for backfiles. You can also view backfile usage from all publishers and all years and see the percentage of use that comes from backfiles.

  • Number of titles and requests in various usage ranges (calendar year)

    Calendar year summaries of usage/non-usage of titles in the deal you take and any usage/non-usage of other titles included in the JR1/JR1a reports including gateways and host intermediaries (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest).

  • Number of titles and requests in various usage ranges (enter dates)

    Summaries of usage/non-usage of titles in the deal you take and any usage/non-usage of other titles included in the JR1/JR1a reports including gateways and host intermediaries (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest) for a selected date range.

  • Trends over time

    Monthly and yearly number of requests from each publisher including gateways and host intermediaries (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest). Results are displayed as a table.

  • Titles with the highest use (calendar year)

    Display the 100 titles with the highest number of requests by publisher or all publishers, and by calendar year or all years. All figures include usage through gateways and host intermediaries (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest) and via JSTOR if applicable.

  • Titles with the highest use (academic year)

    Display the 100 titles with the highest number of requests by publisher or all publishers, and by academic year or all years. All figures include usage through gateways and host intermediaries (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest) and via JSTOR if applicable.

  • Breakdown of publisher and gateway usage by title and year

    The number of requests for each title from a selected publisher for each year, including accesses via gateways and host intermediaries (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest).

  • Breakdown of publisher and gateway usage by title and date range

    The number of requests for each title from a selected publisher over a selected date range, including accesses via gateways and host intermediaries (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest).

  • Show usage of all titles in a particular year

    A list of all the titles contained in any JR1 report (across all publishers) for a selected year with the option to exclude zero usage.

  • Show usage of all titles in a particular date range

    A list of all the titles contained in any JR1 or JR2 report (across all publishers) for a selected date range with the option to exclude zero usage.

Usage profiling

  • Usage profiling reports

    Compare your own usage from a particular publisher by calendar or academic year with an average for all libraries for which we hold data, and that are in the same Jisc band and region, and in the groups (pre-1992, post-1992, RLUK, etc) to which your institution belongs.
