Annual summary use of backfiles
What it tells you
This report shows you the annual number of requests (including gateway and host intermediary requests (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest) from a selected publisher for a selected year both in total and for backfiles. You can also view backfile usage from all publishers and all years and see the percentage of use that comes from backfiles.
How to run the report
- Log in to the portal and go to on Journals (R4)
- Select Annual summary use of backfiles
- Select an individual publisher or all publishers
- Select a year or all years
- Click Generate
How to interpret the data
This report shows total number of requests for a selected publisher or all publishers taken from the publisher JR1 including gateways and host intermediaries reports. It then shows separately use of the backfile collection as reported in the JR1a, and the percentage of use from the backfile collection.
The JR1 report includes usage of archive or backfile collections which are also recorded in JR1a.
The JR1a report is for archive or backfile collections which are generally separately purchased. Not all publishers/aggregators supply JR1a reports. Some publishers ceased to supply this report when Release 4 of the COUNTER Code of Practice for e-Resources made its production optional.
Most summary reports in JUSP include intermediary figures as given in this report, either included in the totals or shown separately. This is always made clear in the notes for each report.
Please note that Ebsco EJS provided usage statistics up to July 2014; after that date usage of all titles accessed via Ebsco EJS comes directly from the publisher..
