Number of titles and requests in various usage ranges (calendar year)
What it tells you
From this report, you can look at summaries of usage/non-usage of titles in the deal you take and any usage/non-usage of other titles included in the JR1/JR1a reports including gateways and host intermediaries (ingentaconnect (Publishing Technology), SwetsWise, EbscoHOST, Ebsco EJS and ProQuest) over a calendar year.
You can see for each publisher and each year numbers and percentages of titles in each usage range nil, low (1-9 accesses), medium (10-99 accesses), high (100-999 accesses), and very high (1000 accesses and over). You can click on the title numbers to get a list of titles in each usage range.
This information can highlight deals that are experiencing high (and low) use and will also show you how many nil use titles in your JR1 report are not included in the deal you take and any titles with usage that are outside the deal.
How to run the report
- Log in to the portal and go to on Journals (R4)
- Select Number of titles and requests in various usage ranges (calendar year)
- Select publisher
- Select JR1 (all) or JR1a (archive only)
- Select a year
- Click Generate
How to interpret the data
The note at the top of the report shows the deal you take and the number of titles it contains.
The table shows the breakdown of the number of titles and percentage within each usage range (nil, low, medium, high, very high) for titles from the publisher both within and outside of the deal.
Most summary reports in JUSP include intermediary figures as given in this report, either included in the totals or shown separately. This is always made clear in the notes for each report.
Please note that Ebsco EJS provided usage statistics up to July 2014; after that date usage of all titles accessed via Ebsco EJS comes directly from the publisher.
Top tips for using this report
- The report is useful for highlighting deals with high usage and deals with low usage, which may help when analysing deals for renewal
- The report indicates how many titles with nil usage are included in the deal you take and how many are outside it. This helps you to judge the true extent of nil use within the deal
- Click on the title numbers to get a listing of the titles falling within that usage range and category (Overall, Deal, Non-deal). Use these data in further analysis of your usage
- Download the report as a CSV file to perform your own analyses
