DB2 report

What it tells you

The DB2 report will tell you the number of access denials by month, database and category. It shows you the number of times users have tried to access content and were denied access either due to the library not having access rights, or the number of simultaneous users limit being reached.

How to run the report

  1. Log in to the portal and go to Books and other (R4)
  2. Select "Database Report 2: Access Denied by Month, Database and Category"
  3. Select a Service
  4. Select a date range by month and year
  5. Click Generate

How to interpret the data

If you do not have access to a database, e.g. because you do not subscribe or have not purchased content, the DB2 will show how many times your users have attempted to access content in each month. This shows as 'no_licence' under 'Access denied category'.

If you have an agreement that limits the number of users that can access a database at a time, the DB2 will show you whether users have been turned away due to this limit being exceeded. The name of the database is displayed in the first column and 'turnaway' will be displayed under 'Access denied category' if applicable.

Top tips for using this report

  1. For full text databases, view alongside access denial counts for journal (JR2) and book (BR3) content for a more detailed picture
  2. Check for access issues by monitoring access denials for subscribed databases
  3. Sort by total to identify high demand resources
